Say hello to Nike’s all-new Air Max 270 React. The latest hybrid from the Oregan-based brand builds on 2018’s Air Max 270 – which, at the time, boasted the brand’s tallest ever heel unit (standing at 36mm) – with a full-length Nike React midsole for heightened levels of cushioning.
Wondering what this feels like? Well, if you were to give Nike React foam a good squeeze, you’d get that satisfying spongy sensation; and then, as you released, you’d witness the foam springing back to its original shape – which is where the technology’s energy return comes into play. This transfers so well to when you’re walking or running as the midsole reacts so quickly, snapping back to its original state to promise consistent support underfoot, step after step, mile after mile.
Now onto the uppers. Here, the shoe takes inspiration from the Nike Element React 87’s aesthetic. In a recent interview Dylan Raasch, Nike’s Senior Sportswear Design Director, explains:
“Instead of no-sew or stitched on panels, the Air Max 270 React is built with a bar tack technique inspired by the Element React 87. This creates the floating eye stay aesthetic”.
The 87’s influence is evident on the release, with swathes of overlaid panels adorning the upper half of the trainer. What makes the shoe really pop, though, is its vibrant colourway. Inspired by the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus Design School in Germany, a black and white base is offset by striking hits of red, green and yellow, rounded off nicely with signature Swooshing to the sidewalls.
The Nike Air Max 270 React will be available on 3rd July via the size? previews app and in selected size? stores, priced at £140.
